Samoyed Dog Breed Standard

From the history of the breed: 
Samoyed or Arctic Spitz is a dog with long history. The legend tells that constantly due to the growth of population of the Iranian Plateau, strong tribes forced out those who were weaker farther to the north, until the most primitive tribe - Samoyeds (Laplanders, Nenets, etc.) – found themselves in safe on the tundra vast expanses. 
There Samoyeds led a nomadic life, which depended on the livestock of reindeers and on dogs, that were shepherds and hunters, served as a transport and just as companions, nurses and "heaters" for children. So, because of this fact Samoyed breed had been developing for  several centuries without interference of other dog breeds. 
Country of origin: 
Northern Russia and Western Siberia. 
General appearance: 
Unusually striking. Of medium size, very harmonious. Strong, active, graceful, possesses a of great power of endurance.

Height and weight: 
Height: males - 21–23.5 inches (53–60 cm), females - 19–21 inches (48–53 cm). 
Weight: males - 51–66 lb., (23–30 kg), females - 37–55 lb. (17-25 kg). 
Coat: 
Rich, thick, flexible and dense polar coat. Samoyeds are double coated dogs with short, soft and dense undercoat and longer, more harsh and straight outer coat. The coat should form a ruff around the neck and shoulders framing the head, especially in males. On head and on front of legs, hair is short and smooth; on outside of ears short, standing off and smooth. Inside the ears should be well furred. On back of the thighs the hair forms trousers. There should be a protective growth of hair between the toes. The tail should be abundantly covered with hair. The coat of the female dog is often shorter and softer in texture than that of the male. The correct coat texture should always have a special glistening shine.
Color: 
Pure white, cream or white with biscuit. (The basic color is considered to be white with a few biscuit markings). Should never give the impression of being pale brown. 
Head: 
Powerful, wedge-shaped, with a broad, flat skull; muzzle is of medium length, tapering foreface not too sharply defined. Lips are black. Hair is short and smooth between the ears. Nose preferably black, but may be brown or flesh colored. 
Ears: 
Thick, not too long, slightly rounded at tips, set well apart and well covered inside with hair. Fully erect in adults. 
Eyes: 
Almond shaped, set slanted, medium to dark brown, set well apart with alert. The eye rims are black. 
Neck: 
Strong, of medium length, proudly arched. 
Teeth: 
Jaws are strong, with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite.

Body: 
Slightly longer than the height at the withers, deep and compact but supple. Withers are well pronounced. Back is of medium length, muscular and straight; in females slightly longer than in males. Loins are short, very strong and pronounced. Croup is broad, strong, muscular, slightly sloping. 
Chest: 
Long, broad and deep, reaching almost to the elbows. Ribs are well sprung. 
Belly: 
Slightly tucked up. 
Tail: 
Set rather high. When the dog is alert and in motion the tail is carried bent from the root forward over the back or side, but may be hanging at rest, then reaching to the hocks. 
Limbs (front and rear): 
Forequarters: Shoulders are well set and muscular with strong bones. When viewed from the front - are straight and parallel. 
Hindquarters: When viewed from behind - are straight and parallel with very strong muscles. 
Attractive features: 
Powerful and active dog, used to live outside. Samoyeds have calm and independent nature, self-confident. They are beautiful pets - loyal and affectionate. Good watchdogs because they often bark.
